Communication
One of the main reasons for me to choose the study International Leisure and Events Management is because you have to work with people. Whether it is with other students, coaches, or clients, I like to have social contact. Communication is therefore a very important skill to have. I believe I have learned a fair bit of how to communicate during teamwork. During team meetings, I tend to observe the group and comment or add information when I feel it is an added value. I always try to keep the group spirit, however, I am not afraid to give my opinion if necessary. If this is the case I am, most of the time, able to communicate my view on the situation. Depending on the situation I will continue discussing the subject or, if not necessarily important, leave it as it is.
One example of a situation where my communication skills got tested was when I got called by the recruitment office from the RAI Amsterdam. It was an unexpected call and I was not necessarily prepared at that moment. After a bit of talking she asked me what would be the most difficult aspect of the internship for me, which I replied to with: "Calling and communicating while not being physically there with someone". Since the internship completely revolves around calling clients I explained that this is the perfect opportunity for me to learn this essential skill.
